Chrono Journal [Against the Pulse], Arc 02 – Conflict

Chrono Journal Entry #11
Arc: Conflict
Theme: 鼓動に抗う (Against the Pulse) – I refuse to move at their rhythm. I choose mine.

The world has a heartbeat.

You don’t hear it at first — not when you’re born into it. But if you listen closely enough, it’s there.
That rhythm. That pulse.
That demand that you move, live, and feel only within the pattern they’ve programmed for you.

Tonight, I stopped following it.

I waited at a transit node — one of the old ones, half collapsed, half alive. The city’s pulse ran underneath. I could feel it humming through my boots, crawling up my legs, syncing with my breath.
But I didn’t let it in.

I closed my eyes.
Found my own tempo.
And sang against it.

It felt like fighting gravity. Like trying to breathe underwater.
The system hates when something breaks sync.

First came the distortion fields.
Then came the audio scramblers.
Then — silence.

But not mine.
Theirs.

For a moment, I could feel the city hesitate.
The machines paused — just enough to know I’d hit something deeper.
Just enough to know: I was no longer a dissonance.

I was disruption.

This wasn’t rebellion through destruction.
It was rebellion through refusal.

I refused to let the system write the meter of my soul.

They built the world to a rhythm.
And tonight, I broke the beat.
